Serendipity:

Stepping outside the box and finding oneself in the process

These are some of the things I've dabbled in over the years... a cake for my daughter, a drawing for a friend, a painting for class... The things you see here were not included because I think they're beautiful, but because they are mine. I never would have known the artist within if a friend had not encouraged me to try new things.

Among those new things were the importance of using the right tools, an improved technique for drawing in pencil, painting with acrylics, experimenting with additives, going large (intimidating at first), going small (harder than it sounds), sculpting with wire, and using red charcoal for portraits.

In my journey outside the box, I learned what I am good at, what I'm not good at, and what needs more work. I learned how to slow down and enjoy the beauty that God put all around us, and I learned how to make others happy too. The best gift you can give a person is the gift of your time. And so, more and more, I am taking the time to make things for my friends and family, things that are made especially for them, with their interests and personalities in mind. And I have also made some things available for others to give to their loved ones.
